Losing hair is not an unusual problem for adults. In fact, according to the American Hair Loss Association, two-thirds of men in the United States will lose a notable amount of their hair by the time they reach age thirty-five. Although men are specifically mentioned, it's not uncommon for women to start losing hair in their 30s as well. However, just because it's a common occurrence doesn't mean it's easy to accept when your own beautiful locks start to thin out.

So what causes you to lose your hair in your 30s, and what can be done about it? While it isn't always possible to stop the unpleasant occurrence, fortunately, there are several ways you can combat it.

Contributing Factors for Hair Loss

It can be challenging to pinpoint the exact cause of hair loss. In fact, any of the following could be to blame:

  • Genetics
  • Nutrition
  • Hormones
  • Stress
  • Thyroid function
  • Smoking

While most of these factors are listed in no particular order, genetic predisposition is the most common cause of hair loss. If your mom or dad experienced noticeable thinning in their 30s, there's a good chance you will, too.

Treatment Options

If you're losing hair, you can choose from a variety of hair treatments. Some treatments might work better for you than others. Three of the most popular include hair transplants, NeoLTS (light therapy), and platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

Many people turn to hair transplants to cover up thin spots. Hair transplants work quite well for many men and may work in some cases with women. Unfortunately, not everyone is a good candidate for transplants and must meet certain criteria in regard to the type of thinning, age, donor area, etc.

NeoLTS is a type of non-invasive light therapy that gently stimulates the scalp and can promote hair growth. It has a high satisfaction rate and works well for many men and women experiencing hair loss. Treatment is painless and can promote a feeling of relaxation. Ducray hair products are a great compliment to NeoLTS as they improve blood flow to the scalp and encourage hair follicles to behave younger than they are.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment is also very popular for those with hair loss and has a high success rate. You can receive this effective treatment at our state-of-the-art hair center. During the procedure, we draw 1-2 syringes of your blood, then put it through a specialized process to concentrate the platelets and create PRP. Next, we inject target sites on your scalp with the PRP, where it penetrates deep into the tissue and provides dormant hair follicles with a fresh blood supply so they can regrow.
